About Alaya Tea

Alaya Tea's Story

Alaya comes from “Himalaya,” the region that inspired them to build a tea company. After growing up drinking chai and traversing this mountainous area in India’s Northeast, and visiting small farmers and tea estates, co-founders Esha and Smita were keen to build a company that respects these communities and addresses the environmental challenges we face through agriculture.

Sourcing

Alaya sources directly from organic and biodynamic farms in India where tea pickers and workers are treated kindly. Their teas are picked fresh in small batches and always free from additives, flavorings, and preservatives—just pure, whole ingredients in every cup.

Zero-Waste Packaging

Alaya's goal is to be a zero-waste company - one that uses packaging that does the least amount of harm to the environment. They offer loose leaf teas because most tea bags are single-use, made with plastic and nylon-based fibers, and contribute to our massive waste problem.

Biodynamic & Loose Leaf

They work with farms that are growing tea in ways that help retain the soil and combat climate change. Alaya offers USDA-certified organic, biodynamic teas made with whole leaves—not crushed fanning—for full flavor and a richer, more authentic tea experience.
